Anxiety often get triggered when parents see their child entering Primary School Education. It is like sending the child to a battle field, pitting against many others to see who can emerged as the cream of the crops. This article is not trying to help parents achieve that goal. It is purely aiming at preparing your child for Primary 1 English Education.
Big Books, Not Text Books
Under the Strategies for English Language Learning and Reading (Stellar) programme piloted by Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2006, lower primary pupils learn English by reading friction.
These stories come in giant books, so a whole class – typically of about 30 – can share one book.
Stellar aims to increase students’ engagement and opportunities for holistic development.
Teachers ask questions to infer and predict what is going to happen next. Teachers can expand the themes through class activities. Class activities help to create shared experiences that all kids can relate to and learn many things.
How Parents Can Help?
- Familiarize your child with alphabets
- Help them understand simple stories with more reading and getting them to guess what is going to happen next.
