Expectation of your toddler
By the end of this month, your toddler should be able to
- Able to walk well
- Bend over to pick up an object
- Able to use at least 1 word
Your toddler will probably be able to
- Able to use 2 words (by 14.5 months)
- Drink from a cup
- Scribble
- Point to a desired object
Your toddler may possibly be able to
- Point to 1 body part when asked
- Use a spoon/fork (but not exclusively)
- Build a tower of 2 cubes
Your toddler may even be able to
- ‘Feed’ a doll
In the event your toddler has not reached these milestones, do not be overly anxious. This rate of development may well be normal for your child, as some children are late bloomers. Importantly, it needs to be evaluated or consulted with a doctor. Check with the doctor if your toddler seems unresponsive, doesn’t smile, makes few or no sound, doesn’t seem to hear well, is perpetually irritable, or demands constant attention. For the one year old who was born prematurely, the toddler will often lags behind others of the same chronological age. This developmental gap progressively narrows and generally disappears entirely around age two.
