Expectation of your toddler
By the end of this month, your toddler should be able to
- Wave bye-bye
- Stand alone
- Put an object into a container
- Use mama / dada intentionally (by 13.5months)
- Follow 1-step verbal command without gestures
Your toddler will probably be able to
- Bend over and pick up an object (by 13.5 months)
- Walk well (by 13.5 months)
Your toddler may possibly be able to
- Use an object in imitation
- Say 3 words (by 13.5 months)
Your toddler may even be able to
- Build a tower of 2 cubes (by 13.5 months)
- Use 6 words or more (by 13.5 months)
- Run
- Walk up steps
- Follow a 2-step verbal command without gestures
In the event your toddler has not reached these milestones, do not be overly anxious. This rate of development may well be normal for your child, as some children are late bloomers. Importantly, it needs to be evaluated or consulted with a doctor. Check with the doctor if your toddler seems unresponsive, doesn’t smile, makes few or no sound, doesn’t seem to hear well, is perpetually irritable, or demands constant attention. For the one year old who was born prematurely, the toddler will often lags behind others of the same chronological age. This developmental gap progressively narrows and generally disappears entirely around age two.
