Baby Development Singapore : First To Third Month

Expectation of your baby

 

Firsth Month BabyBy the end of the 1st month, your baby should be able to:

  • Lifts head momentarily
  • Moves head side to side when lying on back
  • Hands stay clenched
  • Looks and follows object moving in front of them in range of 45 degrees
  • Sees black and white patterns
  • Cries to express displeasure
  • Brings hands to face
  • Blinks at bright lights
  • Responds to loud noises
  • May turn toward familiar sounds or voices
Second Month BabyBy the end of the 2nd month, your baby should be able to:

  • Lift head almost 45 degrees when lying on stomach
  • Head bobs forward when held in sitting position
  • Follows dangling objects with eyes
  • Visually searches for sounds
  • Smiles
  • Makes noises other than crying
  • Cries become distinctive (wet, hungry, ec.)
  • Vocalizes to familiar voices
  • Social smile demonstrated in response to various stimuli
Third Month BabyBy the end of the 3rd month, your baby should be able to:

  • Raises head and chest when put on tummy
  • Kicks and straightens legs when on back
  • Able to hold head up when sitting but still bobs forward
  • Holds objects but does not reach for them
  • Clutches own hands and pulls at blankets and clothes
  • Brings hands together
  • Kicks legs
  • Tries to imitate sounds
  • Recognizes familiar people and objects, even at a distance
  • Starts to develop hand-eye coordination
  • Shows awareness to strange situations
