After the newborn has arrived, the next exciting moment for parents is to bring this new family member back home. I’m now a father of three kids. But I can still recalled the happiness and excitement I had back then. Like many new parents, I start to wonder what to expect next. Like many parents, I surf net, read articles and books, listen to elders and experienced parents just to get every information to get prepared. According to the doctor, there is a schedule for when a baby and a child should develop, when they should be doing what. The first 3 years of a newborn’s life may bring about some anxiety in the parents; especially the new parents. So what we have done here is to give you a brief breakdown of what to expect.
It has become clear that a child’s first three years of life largely determine his or her future developmental trajectory. To a large extent, these early years set the stage for later outcomes in personal health, emotional development, educational attainment, social competence, self-confidence, self-reliance and positive human relationships. Parental investment in providing care, love and understanding during this formative age period will bring bear its fruits in the long run.
The Baby Development Reference Guide
The following is a brief list of what you should expect your newborn to be doing the first year of its life. If your child is in the toddler stage, you may want to proceed on to the Toddler’s Guide. Be warned, each child is different. Not every child is going to follow the guidelines exactly. Every baby is unique, they all mature and develop at their own pace. That does not mean that the baby are slow, or have any developmental problems. Likewise, a child that master things earlier than the guideline suggests doesn’t mean that you have a prodigy on your hands.
